Chelsea Meatpacking District and Market

I saw this wooden sculpture and just had to take a picture for Brent. Hey, the next time I have an extra $5600 laying around...(I'm rolling my eyes right now. What idiot would actually buy this?)

Anyway, our last day in New York and before heading to the airport, we stopped off at the Chelsea Market four a walking culinary tour. All the artisans in the Chelsea Market were hand-picked by the owner and are mostly family run business, which totally fit in to Mom and my philosophy! Here is one of the bakeries..

This is a natural spring that was found during the refurbishment of the market building. It now flows as part of the decour.

Here is the fish market's sushi bar. All the seafood is impossibly fresh and this spicy tuna roll looked really good...

Here is our tour guide saying a few words on the deliciousness of lobster...

Ha ha ha!!! There's no escape....Bwa ha ha!!!

Mom enjoying the free lobster bisque sample...

This was a really great Italian market that had tons of really exotic and gourmet ingredients. I got real saffron!

Marzipan fruits...

Hmmmm....my favorite...salumis, sausages, and procuittos...

Bins and bins of various nuts, salts, flours, cakes, chocolates, etc......

Dozens of cheeses from all over the world, from all different animals...

This is a retro- modern take on the old fashioned soda fountain. This diner is an extension of an organic dairy- they even won a food award for their chocolate milk! I love how they used old milk crates, it really gave the place a special feel.

As if all of this wasn't enough, we then walked into the produce grocery (which is about thirty degrees cooler than the rest of the market). Most of their produce is organic and all of it was beautiful.

This rack of spices was very impressive. I was tempted by all of it, but was good and only ended up buying some Feunogreek for some sausage I want to make.

This store had it all! It was like Cost Plus, but, you know, real....

Ah, the lights of Christmas decorated the halls of the market, giving it a festive glow. None of the New Yorkers seemed to notice :-)
